Eradicate Periodontal and Heart Disease!
Here at Dental First Corp., our mission is to eradicate Periodontal Disease (PD) in our community to help bring people to optimal total body wellness.
The latest research has linked periodontal disease to heart problems, diabetes, low birth weight babies and other health issues.
PD is a common chronic bacterial infection affecting the gums and bone. It is a silent infection that occurs when harmful bacteria grow beneath the gums and create “pockets” or spaces between the tooth and gum. When left untreated, the inflammatory process can lead to bone and tooth loss and threaten your overall wellness.
Symptoms may include:
The first stage of gum disease is Gingivitis-- an inflammation of the gums. Gingivitis is caused by a biofilm of plaque - the soft, sticky, colorless film of bacteria that forms on the teeth and gums daily.
If not removed by daily brushing and flossing, the bacteria produce toxins that cause gingivitis.
Left untreated, gingivitis can become periodontitis and cause bone and tooth loss. Periodontitis is divided into three stages—mild, moderate, and advanced. Treatment for this condition involves scaling and root planning, gum surgery, and adjuct therapy.
TREATMENT OF PD at DFC
With full mouth x-rays, a periodontal exam and a medical history review, we can determine your stage of PD and get you moving towards a beautiful, healthy smile and improved wellness. We use a non-surgical therapy called Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) to remove the harmful bacterial plaque and calculus above and below your gum line. In some cases, surgical therapy maybe necessary.
After SRP therapy, we treat you every 3 months for periodontal maintenance. Research shows that bacteria can reach destructive levels in as few as 90 days and start the bone destroying process again. With every 3 months appointments and practicing meticulous home care we can minimize the recurrence of infection.
Non-surgical adjunct therapy includes:
Periidex: An antibacterial dental rinse used to reduce bleeding and inflammation.
Arestin: A Locally Administered Antibiotic used to reduce pocket depth.
Flouride varnish: A 5% Sodium Fluoride with ACP used to re-mineralize tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity.
Periostat: Antimicrobial oral medication.
Oil Pulling: A holistic alternative
Herbal Therapy: A holistic alternative
Xylitol Therapy: A holistic alternative
